Linear bearings (ball bushings) are used in mechanisms that have a lot of reciprocating motion and industrial machines. Linear bearings are used when the shaft wants to play the role of a guide rod, in this situation it is important to move accurately and without play. Linear bearings differ from ball bearings and roller bearings in the type of movement, linear bearings are used in mechanisms that move in the longitudinal direction and ball bearings and roller bearings are used in rotary mechanisms.
Linear bearings were invented when there was a problem with the reciprocating motion of a guide rod. The problem was that the length of the guide rod was directly related to the deflection of the rod (the longer the rod, the greater the deflection), which was solved by using a bearing base; but the sliding bearing used caused increased friction. To solve this problem, engineers combined the bearing with balls and bushings, ultimately leading to the invention of the linear bearing
